The term Monetary Value is used to refer not only to money itself but also to savings, a building society savings contract, life insurance or bonds. Debt securities issued by governments or companies are typical monetary values. The principle is always the same and easy to understand even for laypersons: a thing, for example, a product or a service, is exchanged for a piece of paper. The value of the exchanged object is written down on this paper. The owner of the exchanged object trusts in the long-term stability of the value of the document. However, in most cases, this paper of monetary value is accompanied by very little security.

This is because every monetary security is exposed to inflation and must produce high-interest rates to maintain its value. In addition, there is always the threat of insolvency for the issuer. If this occurs, the monetary value literally dissolves into nothing. The example of life insurance can illustrate this well. Insurers guarantee a certain return, the guaranteed interest rate. However, the current low-interest rate climate is causing the providers' profits to fall to such an extent that they can no longer keep their old promises. They lower the guaranteed interest rate and the monetary value of the policy decreases. But the same is possible with currencies such as the euro.

What is the term Tangible Asset?

Put simply, anything that can be touched is a tangible asset. In addition to real estate, this also includes gold and other precious metals and commodities. Shares can also be considered tangible assets, since the owners of the securities have a stake in the issuing company, which in turn represents a tangible asset.  Tangible assets are characterised by a relatively high stability of value.

Almost every tangible asset increases in value due to inflation. This means that more and more money has to be spent on the product. Almost all tangible assets are suitable for investment, but they are accompanied by varying degrees of advantages and disadvantages. Skilful diversification, i.e. spreading, also offers maximum security in tangible asset investment. Gold or Diatomite is particularly in demand as a tangible asset because the precious metal and raw materials will never really lose their value.

What is Diatomite?

Diatomite or Diatomaceous earth consists of the shells (Diatoms) of fossil Diatoms, which can occur in both fresh and salt water. In prehistoric times, Diatoms - tiny single-celled organisms - were deposited on the seafloor. In the course of time, this partially dried up. That is why deposits of Diatomite can be found all over the world, including in Northern Macedonia, where SEDS's own storage site is located. Bentonite is the name for Diatomite in the younger state.

The shells of Diatomite are mostly composed of silica and are very porous, which is why the mineral can absorb large amounts of water and fat. In addition, the environmentally friendly raw material is characterized by a number of other natural quality features, such as excellent filtering properties or a high abrasiveness (« emery effect » ). This is why the industrial mineral is used in countless industries, from organic farming to the most advanced technologies.

The demand for Diatomite on the global market therefore continues to grow, which also influences the price development accordingly. In addition, raw materials are particularly popular in times of crisis. And rightly so!

What is Diatomite used for?

Not for nothing is Diatomite « called the mineral of a thousand uses » . In agriculture, for example, it is used as a soil conditioner or pest controller, harmless to human and animal health. In the food industry, Diatomite is used in water treatment and beer production, for example, due to its excellent filtering properties. Diatomite is also ideally suited as an environmentally friendly construction material for houses, buildings, and even spacecraft.

The coveted raw material is also used in pharmaceuticals, dentistry and cosmetics - for example, it is found in toothpaste, exfoliating masks and healing clay.
